I don’t know about you, but I’m busy. I’m running a few businesses, running after a toddler and doing everything in my power to rock both. And to be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t have it any other way. People are always trying to tell me to “slow down” and “stop moving so fast” but you know what, that just isn’t an option. In fact, I think that being busy while working towards a goal (whether that goal is world domination or dominating your laundry) is healthy. Now, just like anything in life, there needs to be a balance. I think that being idle leads to depression but being frantic leads to anxiety. So, it’s a matter of finding that balance between frenzy and fruitless. I’ve seen a few studies that show people who are busy doing things that make them feel productive are happier. I’m all about being happy.
So now that we’re saying that being busy is actually a really good thing, the next question we have to ask is how do we be busy and be healthy? If there is one excuse that I hear that most, it’s the ole, but I’m too busy to eat healthy blah, blah, blah. If it’s important to you to take care of your body, you’ll figure out a way to make it happen. I’m not saying it’ll necessarily be easy, but I can promise you, it’ll be totally worth it. So here are a few tips to get your busy body healthy.
Plan, Plan, Plan. Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail. If you don’t have a plan and leave your food choices to chance, chances are good that those choices will stink. Really, there are rarely amazing choices found in cafeterias, fast food joints or your last minute lunch box.
Go Green. I think we’re all getting a little tired of the whole green thing, but this is where green really matters. Actually, this is where all colors matter. Stock your fridge and freezer with color. The more green, red, purple, orange and yellow, the more nutrients you’ll be eating. Booyah.
If You Don’t Buy It, You Won’t Try It. But all I had in the house was ho-hos, yo-yos and fro-yos. Ugh! Hear me out—if you don’t buy the junk, you won’t eat the junk and best of all, you won’t end up with junk in your trunk. If it’s not there you won’t eat it. Even better, if you’ve followed tip #2, you’ll find all those greens, peppers, cucumbers, bananas, oranges, and carrots instead. Eat those.
Get the Gear. A big purse/man bag stocked with the goods is essential the on-the-go-health-wannabes. Seriously, if you ever look in my over-sized purse, you’re going to find all of my go-to-healthy-snack favorites. This way, I never have to worry about scrounging around for something good for me (or my family) to eat while we’re out and about. I just dig around in my bag and Voila! I pull out a fabulously healthy food. It’s just like magic.
