Resolutions are here today and gone tomorrow. Let’s get real, they’re pretty pointless. In fact, chances are good that if you make one and don’t stick to it–not only are you NOT going to get the results you’re after, you’re going to be depressed that once again, you couldn’t hack it.

But this year, it’s going to be different. Why?!? Because this year you are going to do the one thing you didn’t think you could–you are going to make your resolution a reality. This year’s resolution will not only be NOT pointless, it will be so to the point, that success is inevitable. If you’re ready, I’m going to revolutionize your resolution step by step.

Step 1: Set it
What is the ONE thing you want to change the most this year? While it’s great to have a list of top 10, I want you to narrow it down to one. (yup, just one)

Step 2: Visualize it
Nope, this isn’t one of those just “visualize it” moments. This is a materialize it moment. It’s the step where you write it down and put it up. In fact, I want you to put it up all over in places you’re going to see over and over again  every day. If you don’t get it out of your brain and onto paper where you can visualize it, it’s just like it doesn’t exist.

Step 3: Establish it
You next need to establish the exact routine, method and schedule by which you are going to make your resolution a reality. (this is the step where you’re going to want to enlist the help of a coach and program that will give you the framework by which you will become a success)

Step 4: Kick it
Kick it Aristotle Style. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not in an act, but a habit” To get the results you are after, you’ve got to realize that consistency is key. Doing something a few times isn’t going to do much. Challenge yourself to make your goal related routine a habit. The best research I’ve seen on the subject of habit indicates that it takes an average of 66 (not 6!) days to break or form a habit.

Step 5: Get to it
Do it!! (enough said.)

Okay, now I feel like I need to help you manage your expectations. Progress often happens slowly. Instead of saying, I have to achieve resolution success within a few weeks or else I am just gonna forget it, be realistic. Success happens through daily motivation, discipline and consistency. Patience is a total virtue. Listen up, you CAN do it!!
